It is unacceptable, according to Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, for FRCN and NTA to broadcast on outdated equipment.
"It is unacceptable to use outdated equipment for broadcasting in this day and age of innovation, technology, and digital transformation," he asserted.
Idris made his remarks on Friday in Kaduna following an inspection tour of the FRCN and NTA transmitter stations, located at Jaji and Kaita Road, respectively.
"I'm in Kaduna to personally inspect the FRCN and NTA Zonal Office facilities.
It is significant to remember that the Jaji transmitter for the FRCN was installed more than 40 years ago. Certain facilities have existed since 1962.We can no longer use this antiquated technology.
These days, technology advances so quickly. Therefore, it is no longer acceptable to broadcast to Nigerians using these outdated pieces of equipment.
"I will therefore return to the President and inform him of what I have observed so that we can make significant investments in our public broadcasting facilities."We want to boost agricultural exchange, support education and entertainment for our people, and cultivate unity among Nigerians.
We also want to educate Nigerians about the inner workings of government. It is crucial that we embark on this kind of nationwide journey to observe facilities in various regions of the nation. In Jaji, the most recent equipment was installed somewhere between 1980 and 1982.
This isn't going to happen. We can't keep up with the speed at which technology is developing. NTA and FRCN can't fall behind, Idris emphasized.
According to him, a concerted effort needs to be made to make sure the attire kept up with global technological advancements.
"I promise Nigerians that technology and innovation are the new Ministry of Information and National Orientation's main priorities, and that financial investment is unavoidable.
"In order to achieve the desired change, those operating this equipment also need to have the right attitude," Idris stated.
