Man detained in Enugu for using the identity of a well-known benefactor to perpetrate fraudThe Enugu State Police Command has detained Somtochukwu Franklin on suspicion of defrauding people by impersonating the Facebook account of philanthropist Emmanuel Okoh, also referred to as "Okwuluora."

The agents took the 26-year-old Franklin into custody on December 3, 2023, at around 12:30 p.m.

According to an initial inquiry, the suspect admitted to carrying out the crime.

He revealed that he set up the fictitious "Okwuluora" Facebook page in January 2023 and has been using it ever since to ask his thirty-three thousand followers for money.

The suspect claims that he typically waits for the genuine "Okwuluora" to publish a message asking for support from those who are in need of money.

He then instantly copies and uploads them to the fictitious Facebook account, replacing the beneficiary's account information with his own, and defrauding gullible contributors of their money.

The suspect continued his statement by disclosing that he has received donations totaling tens of thousands of Naira.

The State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department has been directed by Police Commissioner CP Kanayo Uzuegbu to carry out an additional comprehensive investigation and guarantee the prompt prosecution of the accused.
