Lalong steps down as Senate minister

Lalong steps down as Senate ministerIn order to take up his elected role as the senator for the Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong has resigned from his position as minister of labor and employment.

Following a declaration from the Court of Appeal and deliberation on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope agenda," Dr. Makut Simon Macham, the spokesperson for Lalong, announced his resignation from the Senate.

Macham further stated that Lalong reminded Tinubu in a letter dated Tuesday, December 19, 2023, that following a drawn-out legal procedure, the Court of Appeal had recognized him as the legitimate senator for the Plateau South Senatorial District and had instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant him a Certificate of Return.

Macham claims that Lalong took great pride in the fact that the President trusted and believed in him as a Minister in his cabinet, having been the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, which helped the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the election.

However, the spokesperson stated that it was now more convenient for him to move forward and assume his place in the Red Chambers so that he could continue to support the President's agenda for "Renewed Hope."
