The commandant of the NDLEA in the state, Mr. Adamu Iro, told reporters in Sokoto on Saturday, "It is the first such case in the history of the state."
According to Iro, a tip led to the arrest of the suspect, Anas Sani, in Sayinna village, Tambuwal Local Government Area.
He claimed that when NDLEA agents invaded the farm, the suspect planted an unfamiliar strain of cannabis sativa in his maize plantation, which was removed.
He says that once the uprooted leaves are analyzed in a lab, the culprit will face charges.
He thanked the locals for their support of the organization and pleaded with them to keep going.
The commandant issued a warning, stating that trading in illegal narcotics and growing Indian hemp carries severe penalties.
