In Anambra, police stop a couple who are trafficking a one-month-old infant.A couple is being held by the Anambra Police Command on suspicion of smuggling a one-month-old infant from Lagos to Onitsha.


This is stated in a statement provided to newsmen on Tuesday in Onitsha, which was signed by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer.


According to Ikenga, the intercept was made on Sunday at Bridgehead in Onitsha.


He claimed that when the infant was crying for food during the trip, a fellow passenger noticed that the mother was unable to nurse the child in the couple's opulent bus, which belonged to a well-known transportation firm.


The good samaritan called the Anambra Police Control Room hotline in Awka, and the police at Anambra's Bridgehead in Onitsha received the information.


"In the evening hours, the police stopped and waited for the affluent bus mentioned. He claimed, "The couple and the infant were recognized and taken down for interrogation.


He mentioned that she had admitted to paying N30,000 to purchase the child from its mother in Ajah, Lagos.


He said that the public-spirited individual had received a thank you from Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, for his compassionate care in providing the information that resulted in the child's rescue.


He emphasized that Adeoye was proud of the police officers' alertness and commitment to duty.


According to him, the commissioner ordered that the couple be turned over to the National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of Persons (NAPTIP) so that they might be the subject of additional inquiry and legal action.


According to Ikenga, the infant has been placed under the care of the state Ministry of Women Affairs until an inquiry is conducted.
