The murders of two drivers and four soldiers in Rivers State's Abua-Odual Local Council by gunmen have been denounced by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.The body also denounced the attack's kidnapping of two South Korean expats and demanded those responsible to immediately free the foreigners and stop acting in such a manner going forward.
Remember that last Tuesday, around the Ahoada/Abua end of the East-West Road in Rivers State, a convoy of Daewoo employees was ambushed by armed gunmen, who killed four soldiers, two drivers, and two expatriates of the firm.
Kidnapping, attacks, and killings are not consistent with the Ijaw and Niger Delta's battle for resource sovereignty and self-determination, according to a statement from IYC spokesman Binebai Princewill.
"This is barbaric and completely unacceptable," he continued. It is an obvious criminal case and a blow to the region's attempts to achieve peace and stability. As a result, we urge the pertinent security agencies to prosecute the offenders of this horrible act in order to serve as a warning to others.
But we urge the military to act with the highest professionalism in order to apprehend those responsible for this murder.
"In the pursuit of the perpetrators, the innocent residents of Abua-Odual Local Government Area and its neighboring local governments in Rivers and Bayelsa must not be subjected to needless suffering.
