IDPs: Development partners are urged by Benue SEMA to intensify humanitarian assistance
The executive secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), James Iorpuu, is calling on Northeastern development partners to migrate to Benue and support internally displaced people (IDPs).

Iorpuu made the request during a Sunday interview in Jos with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He claims that the insurgency and terrorism in Benue are causing a worse humanitarian disaster than what is occurring in the northeast of Nigeria at the moment.

He claimed that millions of people had been displaced and were seeking safety in internally displaced camps (IDP) camps as a result of the ongoing onslaught on communities in Benue.

Even with Gov. Hyacinth Alia's extraordinary devotion, Iorpuu told NAN, servicing the needs of the internally displaced people has become an enormous undertaking.

He took note of Alia's pledge to promptly repatriate internally displaced people to their ancestral homes upon taking office as governor.

In this sense, he is cooperating with the federal government as well as other development partners.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication inaugurated the IDP cluster communities in Benue State recently.

"He has increased the purchase of food and non-food goods for the welfare of the displaced population, and the most recent batch was distributed to them only last week.

Along with several development partners who have been helping us, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has also been providing us with relief supplies.

These are the steps the governor has done to lessen people's suffering in coordination with the federal government and a few development partners.

"But we are calling other development partners to relocate to Benue and assist us, as this is still insufficient to effectively meet the needs of the IDPs," he said.
