Group asks APC to back Osunbor while former Representatives abandon PDP in favor of LP in Edo
Dr. Uzoya Okougbosun's non-governmental organization, the African Green Peace Initiative, has urged the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to offer Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor the party's gubernatorial ticket for the state's 2024 elections, citing his vision for the state's redemption.

"To rescue Edo state from its current state of decay, hopelessness, and deadly existence, a human and visionary personality such as His Excellency Professor Oserheimen Osunbor is required," stated Okougbosun, the organization's president, in an interview with Benin City news reporters.

He compared Osunbor to the late Prof. Ambrose Alli, the former governor of the now-defunct Bendel State, saying the latter was "a devout Christian," "...a God-fearing and self-effacing leader," and "who is an embodiment of knowledge in every sphere of life i.e intellectual, humanity, and altruism."

The president of the African Green Peace Initiative claims that Osunbor "emphasized that administration and governance of any society is for the upliftment of the human race" throughout his time as governor prior to his removal by the court.

"During his brief tenure as Executive Governor of Edo State, he demonstrated these virtues by increasing the monthly subvention that is payable to the State University, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and other tertiary institutions in the State," the speaker stated.

"He established a credit system that allowed public officers and civil servants to obtain loans for agricultural purposes," stated Okougbosun. "Because he was a compassionate person, he felt it was appropriate to provide bursaries to Edo students in higher education institutions throughout the nation."

According to Okuogbosun, Osunbor was sent to bring Edo into the modern era, following in the footsteps of the wise late Prof. Ambrose Alli. During his brief tenure as governor, Osunbor developed the State's infrastructure extensively.

Meanwhile, Sergius Ogun, a former member of the House of Representatives, has entered the Edo governorship contest using the Labour Party's platform.

According to Ogun, he chose to join the LP because the Labour Party stands for the average person.

Ogun, who served as the 8th and 9th National Assembly representative for Esan North East/South East, stated that he supports the party because it will liberate the Edo people in the upcoming governorship election through its fight for a better society.

"I have faith in the people, and the Labour Party represents the common people—the common Nigerians, the commoners, the oppressed people in this nation. Thus, in order to free the average person on the street, we must employ the Labour Party platform.

By 2024, the labor government located on Osadebey Avenue will free the average person in this state. He continued, "We are here to work on the common people, and we will accomplish it through the local government councils.

The 18 local government councils in the state will have autonomy under Ogun's administration, he added, and they will receive whatever money owed to them. We will work with the local government councils when the state government needs to. The state's quality of life will improve once its local government councils are operational.
