Fourth Janet Adowei Scrabble Classic won by Jacob earns international recognition for the championship
The fourth Janet Adowei Scrabble Classics, which took place recently at the Chevron Recreation Club in Gbagada, was won by Ryan Jacob of Akwa Ibom Stare.After defeating Olufemi Gbadebo from Ogun State in Round 17 of the tournament, Lagos Jacob—who had five victories from seven rounds on Day One—roared to a staggering nine wins in a row to end as the overall champion with 14 wins, confirming his first major victory.


Jacob was declared the championship winner and received a 500,000 naira cash award.


Speaking following his triumph, Jacob expressed his gratitude to Akwa Ibom State for helping to get him ready for the competition.


I had no idea this would win! I want to thank God first for this success and then Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, for supporting my training program.It wasn't an easy tournament, but I made it through with just God's grace and preparation. I particularly like how Engineer Adowei used his mother's birthday to unite players for a well-run competition," he added.


In the competition, which drew 74 participants, Cyril Umebiye, Wasiu Hassan, and Joseph Okere—who placed second, third, and fourth in the championship, respectively—also took home 300,000, 200,000, and 130,000 naira.


In addition, six more players in the top 10 won monetary awards.


Other spot prizes went to Emeka Idomele for best Open player and Abiola Oyinloye for best intermediate player.


As the best female player, Adebisi Adekansi rose to the top with her skill.


In memory of his late mother, former Lekki Scrabble Club Chairman Engr. Ebikeme Adowei established the Janet Adowei Scrabble Cassics, which has grown to be a fruitful forum for identifying fresh talent in Scrabble and a point-gathering competition for Nigerian Scrabble players.


Since its founding four years ago, the JAMSC—where Scrabble players from all around the nation compete for honors—has likewise attained national prominence.


The Lekki Scrabble Club's immediate past president, Engr Adowei, expressed his satisfaction and elation at the tournament's impact on Scrabble across the nation.


"Seeing my Scrabble friends show up to honor me makes me very happy. I'm very satisfied." I'd like to dedicate this tournament to my mother, who encouraged me to play the game.

We made the decision to make it public in order to inspire numerous other young people to engage in important work and to provide them with recognition on a national and worldwide scale. He expressed his satisfaction with the attendance at this JAMSC event.
