Emmanuel Achogwu is detained by police in Lagos for stealing solar panels used for streetlights.

A man named Emmanuel Achogwu has been taken into custody by Lagos State Police for stealing the solar panels from a streetlight.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, verified Achogwu's detention on Monday.

Hundeyin said on X, "The Lagos State Government recently installed some solar-powered streetlights in some parts of the state."

"The solar panels are being taken a few weeks later. After being notified, the police set to work.

"A few days ago, officers from Alausa Division detained 30-year-old Emmanuel Achogwu on Ikosi Road with four solar panels shortly after he took them off."

Hundeyin claims that after further inquiry, it was discovered that the suspect was one of the professionals hired to install the solar-powered lamps.

A spokeswoman for Lagos State Police said that the inquiry is still underway.
