Attack on Plateau: Mutfwang accuses FG, claims terrorists have been in schools for years
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has denounced the federal government's inaction against terrorists who have been occupying schools in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area for the past five years due to a lack of "political will."

Mutfwang's comments come after a string of attacks on Christmas Eve that left hundreds of people homeless and over 115 people dead in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas.

In an interview on Tuesday with Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, the governor called the attacks "unprovoked" and criticized security services for adopting a "reactionary strategy" rather than taking preventative action.

"As I speak with you today, these terrorists have been infiltrating schools in Barkin-Ladi Local Government for a number of years. According to Mutfwang, "these marauding terrorists have taken over the lands and have displaced not less than 64 communities."

He said that militants had taken over some Barkin-Ladi schools for five years, forcing the students to migrate. Primary healthcare facilities had also been abandoned.

The governor also mentioned that some state residents believe their attackers are getting away with it, and that this is one of the reasons for the ongoing crisis—that is, the lack of arrests and prosecutions.

According to Mutfwang, "the people of Plateau State, especially the victims of these terrorist attacks, feel that under the previous regime, little to no was done to repel these attacks, and it appears as though the terrorists were given official government backing to be able to terrorize them."

The governor added that he will speak with President Bola Tinubu to muster the political will to direct security services to safeguard Nigeria's borders and even the integrity of its own territory.

In addition, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the significance of legitimate property acquisition and urged individuals pursuing land on the Plateau to initiate talks and agreements with local populations.

We must be able to use constitutionalism as a tool to address these challenges because there are other methods to acquire land besides using violence.

"People are free to approach, bargain with, and reside in the villages on the Plateau if they desire land. I don't think anyone will reject, but if they use violence to seize those territories, you can be sure that this is a ticking time bomb because eventually people will react, and there will be a major battle. I hope we avoid reaching that stage.
