Army to host COAS meeting in Maiduguri in 2023The COAS Annual Conference 2023 will take place in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, for seven days, the Nigerian Army announced on Friday.

The conference's theme, "Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment," was announced in a statement signed by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army spokesperson.

According to Nwachukwu, the conference is scheduled to take place at the Major General MSA Aliyu Hall, Command Guest House, Maiduguri, Borno State, on December 10, 2023, and run through December 16, 2023.

"The week-long conference holds great importance for national security, peace, and stability, making it an annual event on the Nigerian Army's calendar," he clarified.

Nwachukwu said, saying among other important agenda items, it gives the Army a way to assess, appraise, and thoroughly review their ongoing operational engagements in all theaters of operations across the six geopolitical zones within the year.

He claims that this will provide the NA a comprehensive understanding that will enable it to make significant decisions that are goal-oriented and will help it accomplish its stated goal of tackling Nigeria's complex security concerns.

Additionally, the Conference would give the COAS the chance to meet in person with Field Commanders, General Officers Commanding, and other senior officers to discuss how best to improve NA operations and activities.

Opening day for the conference is Monday, December 11, 2023. It is anticipated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will attend the event as the Special Guest of Honor.

The Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI personnel will hear a speech during the Opening Ceremony, and the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri will be inspected.

According to an Army official, the Special Guest of Honor will also lay the cornerstone for Headquarters 7 Division.

"Lt Col Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff, will also present a lecture titled 'Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria,'" Nwachukwu stated.

Aiming to provide assistance to some communities in Borno State, the Nigerian Army's Civil Military Cooperation initiatives will be put into action on December 12, 2023.

In addition, decisions made at the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2023 will be reviewed at the conference. On December 13 and 14, 2023, a number of briefs and other operational updates pertaining to various NA actions will be presented and discussed.
