Idowu Shoyede, 35, was placed under custody by an Ikeja Chief Magistrate's Court on Monday after it was claimed he violated his neighbor's 16-year-old daughter.Shoyede, of Oredola Street, Iju Ishaga, Lagos State, was accused of defilement by the police.
Shoyede's request was rejected by Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubeinje, who instead gave the police the order to copy the case file and transmit it to the Office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for guidance.
She gave the order to hold the defendant in a detention center while she awaited the advice.
Aware of the high rate of child defilement in the state, Kubeinje postponed the case until January 16, 2024, so that it could be discussed later.
Earlier, ASP Kehinde Ajayi, the prosecution, informed the court that the defendant had committed the offense at the aforementioned address on November 13.
According to Ajayi, Ezenwa was observed engaging in sexual activity with the 16-year-old daughter of his neighbor.
According to Ajayi, the defendant defiled the teenager after luring her into his room.
The defendant behaved in a way that may have disrupt the peace, the prosecution continued.
Sections 137 of the Lagos 2015 Criminal Law are violated by the accused offense.
The crime carries a maximum life sentence in jail.
