Warri South starts immunizing against polio
The Warri South Local Government Area in Delta has initiated the "OBR2) Campaign" to combat the pandemic in the city.

On Monday in Warri, the activity was officially launched by the council chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi.

According to Tidi, poliomyelitis is a debilitating and potentially fatal illness brought on by the polio virus, and the only way to avoid it is by receiving a reliable and efficient immunization.

He clarified that children under the age of five are eligible for the four-day immunization.

With the words, "Nigeria has been experiencing outbreaks of another form or variant of the polio virus, the Circulating Variant Polio Virus type 2 (CVPV2)," the chairman urged parents to bring their children forward for the vaccination.

"If a child lives in an area where the virus is circulating or is not immunized against all strains of the polio virus, they may contract it.

A child who receives the polio vaccine several times can be protected for life. The majority of cases of poliomyelitis occur in young children under five.

An permanent paralysis is caused by one in every 200 illnesses.

"Vaccinating your child and community with the injectable inactivated polio vaccine and the oral polio vaccine (OPV) is the best protection you can give them," he stated.

According to Tidi, obtaining and preserving a high rate of routine childhood immunization is essential to protecting every kid from contracting polio.

"Our children should have the polio vaccine as soon as they are born and all other planned vaccinations, including the immunization pluses, until they are older than five years old.

"It is hoped that this exercise will significantly improve our children's general health in the Warri South Local Government Area."
