On Friday, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources stated that it was prepared to collaborate with the appropriate authorities in order to effectively address environmental issues.Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, indicated his openness to such a collaboration even though his office was being deluged with environmental complaints from worried citizens all throughout the state.
In a statement posted on X, Wahab stated that the main complaints related to these concerns are flooding, noise pollution, traders blocking pathways, and many other urgent problems.
"As a ministry, we are fully committed to responding promptly and decisively to restore law and order throughout the state. We are continuing to act swiftly upon receiving these vital complaints," he declared.
As the guardians of the environment in the state, we understand how important it is to respond to these issues as soon as possible.
Three major issues that affect the lives and livelihoods of our inhabitants are flooding, noise pollution, and illegal walkway blockages.
In order to address these problems head-on, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources is conscientiously planning and carrying out an extensive action plan.
"To ensure the effective settlement of these environmental concerns, a proactive response involving joint efforts across several departments within the Ministry and appropriate agencies will be implemented.”
Wahab added that in order to promote community involvement and adherence to environmental standards, stakeholder engagements and public awareness programs will be carried out.
Therefore, the Ministry has called on all citizens and interested parties to work together in this shared effort to keep Lagos state's environment safe, clean, and sustainable for all.
He continued by saying that as it is a Greater Lagos rising and everyone is involved, the state can work with the people to minimize these environmental challenges and restore the peace and orderliness of its communities.
