Vandalism: Verizon cable thief believed apprehended by NSCDC, with 14 more in the FCTFCT Command's Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained fifteen people for various offenses including damaging vital infrastructure and stealing telecom cables.


ASC1 Comfort Okomanyi, the command's public relations officer (PRO), made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja.


Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, reportedly said as much during the suspects' Tuesday parade in Abuja, according to Okomanyi.


She cited Odumosu as saying that the arrest was a component of the command's continuing effort to sanitize the nation's capital.


The suspects were taken into custody in various FCT locations, according to the commandant, during a routine nighttime operation that was intensified.


According to Odumosu, the suspects were detained on suspicion of stealing, scavenging, and damaging public property. They also allegedly stole bags and phones.


Iron rods, a vandalized transmission line, a climbing belt, and a single Lexus ES 330 intended to transport stolen goods were among the items the commandant identified as having been taken from the suspects.


The following are additional items: a hacksaw, a hammer, a screwdriver, three measuring tapes, four spanners, a compass, three reflective jackets, a helmet, bags, a cart, and a pumping machine.

The commandant criticized criminal groups for destroying vital infrastructure and public utilities, which could endanger public safety.


Vandalism puts vital infrastructure's dependability in jeopardy in addition to being illegal.


According to Odumosu, "any impediment on critical infrastructures poses great risk to our security, safety, and other essential services." Critical infrastructures are essential to the country's ability to function.


He clarified that the Corps' actions are also intended to enforce the prohibition against scavenging inside the city center, which is home to significant installations of infrastructure and vital national assets.


"We are committed to upholding this prohibition and protecting the Federal Capital Territory's public infrastructure, and we will keep up this endeavor until the area is brought back to order.


These criminals, along with their accomplices, have turned their focus to theft, vandalism, and the illicit trade in damaged public infrastructure.


The NSCDC Commandant declared, "We are going to take more robust measures to address this menace in the FCT once and for all."


Odumosu expressed gratitude for the public's assistance and cooperation and urged citizens to maintain their vigilance and report any suspicious activity around vital sites to the Corps so that the necessary measures can be taken.


He said that the corps' first priority continues to be safeguarding its citizens and vital assets.
