The operation, which happened on Monday, November 13, was a component of the continuous campaigns in the North West of Nigeria to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal elements.
The bandits who opened fire upon seeing the soldiers approaching were overwhelmed by the troops' superior and overwhelming weaponry, neutralizing two of the bandits while the rest fled in confusion, according to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Army's spokeswoman.
"One AK-47 rifle, three magazines for the rifle, five 7.62mm (special) rounds, two hand grenades made locally, four telephones, two motorcycle bearings, spanners, screwdrivers, and two bags were recovered by the troops," Yahaya continued.
In order to strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the Division's Area of Responsibility, Major General Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander Operation Whirl Punch, has urged the public to continue providing the army and other security agencies with reliable information.
