The monarch of Rivers Crisis is suing for peace and is warning against ethnic sentiment.
King Ateke Tom, the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, has urged the political gladiators responsible for the state's current political unrest to lay down their weapons and engage in discussion in order to bring about peace.

Ethnic coloration should not be introduced into the conflict between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, according to well-known ex-militant leader Ateke.

Ateke urged all parties involved to exercise prudence in their responses, stressing that the confrontation was between a political godson and his father.

He urged the royal fathers and elders of Rivers to immediately come together and mediate between the opposing sides in order to stop the situation from getting worse.

In a statement released yesterday, the king emphasized that anyone should attempt to politicize the situation or distort the facts.

"I strongly urge for peace and reconciliation in light of these two leaders' strained relationship," he declared.

It is imperative that we avoid giving this problem an ethnic component. It is improper to use this disagreement for political purposes.

The king recalled that Fubara, a native of the state's riverine region, became a governor thanks in large part to Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and member of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality.

He added that no one would gain from the standoff and denounced the continuous conspiracy to destabilize the state by attributing ethnic motivations to the situation.

King Ateke Tom expressed disapproval of the impeachment of Fubara after less than six months in office, stating that such a development was not in the best interests of the state.

"I have observed with deep concern the ongoing situation in Rivers State," declared the king. Between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nysemo Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, our beloved Rivers State is currently confronting a difficult position.

"Our state and its citizens need a speedy resolution to the current dilemma. We ought to carry on the previous administration's growth and peace-promoting course, which the current administration is likewise pursuing.

"I denounce the attempt, made just six months into Governor Siminalayi Fubara's term, to remove him from office. Our state is not best served by this.

"I urge law enforcement organizations to uphold their commitment to the public and resist the influence of political players. It is wrong to unleash tear gas and water cannons on the governor of Rivers State.

"I hope that our legislative and governmental systems will return to normal, which will benefit our people and the business community.

I make a call to all Rivers State residents, including the youth, political figures, and Royal fathers, to unite and place a high priority on communication, peace, and harmony. The future of our state rests on our combined efforts.
