The prohibition is effective immediately, according to a directive issued by Bala Salisu Zango, the state commissioner of information and culture.
Zango stated that the order covers social and religious meetings, except required prayers.
Large gatherings at night of any kind are prohibited by the Katsina state government. With the exception of required prayers, this covers religious and social large-scale public gatherings," Zango said.
"When it becomes necessary to hold permission for gatherings during the day, the Police Divisional Office within the local government area, where the gathering will take place, must be considered," he continued.
As a result, the Katsina State Government issued a warning to the people not to disobey the order, threatening to prosecute those who did so.
