Instead of using instruments for kidney stone removal surgery, endoscopic and laser facilities are used in this treatment.
In a statement made on Tuesday in Bauchi, the hospital's Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Jibrin Bara, claimed that ATBU was the first medical facility in the Northeast to offer kidney stone laser treatment.
He stated, "Residents and others could access the hospital's full upper tract endoscopic and laser facility without having to travel abroad."
Given the exorbitant cost of receiving care at hospitals outside of the area or in Nigeria, he said that inhabitants would benefit from subsidies.
According to Bara, the accomplishment would enable people to receive treatment at a lower cost and recover more quickly.
According to urologist Dr. Evaristus Azobah, kidney stones are extremely painful and uncomfortable.
"It becomes imperative to remove the stones in order to maintain regular everyday activities.
He claimed that patients will not have to endure the agony of having their upper urinary tract opened up after surgery thanks to laser Lithotripsy.
Azobah claims that a procedure called lithotripsy uses ultrasonic shock waves to break kidney stones into smaller pieces that the body can expel.
He applauded the hospital's management for using laser surgery, noting that patients will benefit from significant cost savings.
Additionally, the urologist received praise from Dr. Makama Baje, Head of Department Surgery, ATBUTH, for his successful surgical procedure and for training other hospital staff members.
