In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commission voiced its disapproval of the portrayal of it in a recent comedy video.
It painted the Commission in a negative light by calling the film humiliating.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is once again forced to repeat its warning to skit creators and other social workers to refrain from exploiting the operational identities of the Commission illegally and carelessly due to a video that has gained popularity on social media under the code name "EFCC and Army Wahala."
"EFCC and Army Wahala" is a parody of the EFCC's protocol in action. In addition to being humiliating, the deplorable portrayal of purported EFCC agents in the film terrorizing "suspects" is symptomatic of a concerted effort to damage the organization's reputation.
The FBI clarified that its agents are not bullies but rather sophisticated, contemporary law enforcement professionals who value decency, politeness, and respect for all members of the public, including those who may be under suspicion for financial and economic crimes.
Skeptics are once more cautioned to not from using the EFCC's identity for illicit purposes in their profession. The Commission will not hold back from prosecuting anyone found to be using its operational identities during any interaction.
