The civic center in Oko is dedicated to former vice president Alex Ekwueme.

The Oko community in Anambra State plans to dedicate its renovated Oko Civic Centre to the memory of Nigeria's former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme. 

The ceremony, set for January 5, 2024, will be attended by Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the special guest. 

The Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre, transformed into a multi-million multipurpose center, is a project spearheaded by the Ide Memorial Group, a select group of Oko indigenes. 

Chief Handel Okoli, the group's leader, expressed pride in the initiative, emphasizing that it honors a man who significantly contributed to Oko's development and Nigeria at large. 

The event will be chaired by Chief Sir Ben Okoye, CEO of Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical Company, with collaboration from Oko Community leadership and the Alex Ekwueme Memorial Group.
