At a press conference held in Lagos, Mr. Babatunde Farinloye, the Lagos Sector Commander, stated as much.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was observed, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), with a press conference.
According to him, there were 1,842 individuals and 662 cars engaged in collisions during that time, and 237 of them had varying degrees of injuries.
He stated, "The likely causes are overloading, reckless driving, and excessive speed."
According to Farinloye, the command will keep using all available enforcement and advocacy tools to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions on the roadways.
The Sector Commander said that today is the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which was established by UN Resolution A/60/2005 as a day to honor all those who have died or suffered significant injuries while driving.
The purpose of the yearly international advocacy event is to honor and remember the hundreds of individuals who lose their lives in traffic accidents.
He added, "The day is also to sensitize the living on safe driving practices."
He mentioned that the other goals of the celebration were to give victims of traffic accidents and their families a forum to honor all those who died or were gravely injured on the roads and to encourage efforts to prevent collisions.
"Others should recognize the vital role that emergency services play and push for improved assistance for victims of traffic accidents and their families.
"It also serves to encourage evidence-based measures to avert and ultimately terminate additional traffic-related fatalities and injuries," he stated.
