Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has authorized over N1.3 billion for the settlement of final examination fees for economically disadvantaged students in public secondary schools.
Mukhtar Abdulmumini, CEO of the Planning and Research Department of the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, made this announcement during the fourth-quarter meeting of the Social Protection Technical Working Group.
The funds covered fees for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), National Board for Arabic and Islamic (NBAIS) examination, and National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB).
Additionally, efforts to enhance education included the recruitment of 7,325 new teachers and training for 350 evaluators on Essential Quality Assurance Skills for teachers.
The government also allocated funds for chemistry materials, climate change initiatives, and support to prevent desert encroachment and erosion in select schools.
