In a statement, NAFDAC said that the goods did not adhere to the Cosmetic goods Regulation and were evaluated in accordance with European standards.
The Agency clarified that the items contain mercury, which can harm the kidneys, brain, nerve system, reproductive system, and unborn child when it builds up in the body.
Consequently, a few governmental and regulatory bodies in the EU have banned the import of the goods.
The governing body noted that even if these items are not listed in their database, they nonetheless warn customers, retailers, importers, and distributors to be cautious and watchful along the supply chain to prevent importing, distributing, selling, or using the aforementioned product.
It was urged that those in possession of the product should stop selling or using it and turn it in to the closest NAFDAC office. Additionally, the product's validity and physical condition should be carefully examined.
Additionally, it advised consumers and healthcare providers to contact the closest NAFDAC office with any suspicions of a negative reaction or of regulated products that are subpar or fraudulent.
