Peter Obi calls on the government to put people's lives and property protection first.
The security of people's lives and property has been called upon by Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, and all levels of government in Nigeria.

In response to a report stating that the Abia administration had found over 50 decomposing remains, over 20 decapitated bodies, and several human skeletons across the Lokpanta Cattle Market in the state's Umunneochi Local administration Area, Obi made this statement on Thursday.

This startling revelation was given by Abia state governor Alex Otti on Monday during his monthly media briefing, which took place at Government House in Umuahia.

Reacting on X (previously Twitter), Obi claimed he had read the horrifying account of over 80 bodies, nearly 20 of which were decapitated and in a rotting state, that had been discovered in Abia State.

"Protecting people's lives and property continues to be the first responsibility of any government and is essential to any significant progress that our country hopes to achieve," he said.

Thus, we have to give it top priority. I call on all levels of government to step up their efforts to tackle national insecurity.

"This degree of savagery and heinous deeds only highlights how unstable our surroundings have been.

"It reveals how insecurity has persisted in wreaking havoc across numerous regions of the nation, claiming innocent lives and decimating the economy."

Obi expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his courageous action against insecurity in Abia State, stating that it is highly replicable.

The LP presidential flagbearer also recalled dealing with a comparable circumstance while serving as Anambra State governor in 2013.

Obi claimed that he learned of the tragic news of roughly 35 decaying carcasses floating on the Ezu River, Anambra, when he was going with former President Goodluck Jonathan to an important engagement outside of Nigeria.

He claimed he had to drop everything to quickly return to the state in order to handle the crisis and make sure the area was back in order.

"An autopsy was performed as soon as the investigation was launched, and the State Government was asked to step aside by the Federal Government," Obi stated.
