Onuigbo compiles a list of 30 World Climate Leaders.
Rep. Sam Onuigbo, the chairman of the committee on security, special interventions, and climate change at the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the sponsor of Nigeria's Climate Change Act 2021, also known as the "Sam Onuigbo Act," has been nominated for the Climate Action 30 Global Leaders 2023. This is a component of the One Planet program from Business Insider.

Lily Katzman, Editor, Special Projects, Business Insider, conveyed Onuigbo's nomination.

"We are thrilled to recognize you and your contributions to this pressing topic, which is the climate disaster, which is very important to our viewers.Thirty of the world's most eminent campaigners, business executives, scholars, community leaders, and others are recognized by Climate Action 30 as leading global contributors to climate and environmental solutions.

The nomination is a testament to Rep. Onuigbo's remarkable work as an African climate leader, which includes his sponsorship and advocacy of the Nigerian Climate Change Act 2021, his leadership in driving global and African legislative action on climate change, and his unwavering support for mainstreaming climate considerations in development plans through papers, lectures, and lobbying.

In response to the nomination, Representative Onuigbo expressed his satisfaction that the sacrifice and labor of love that went into the enactment of the Climate Change Act are being acknowledged. He expressed gratitude to God and everyone who helped and encouraged the effort.

Onuigbo stated that he was astounded by the honor, particularly considering that he had never met or spoken with the organizers before. He claimed that the honor was earned rather than bought.

The former member of the National Assembly is now part of an impressive group of leaders in Climate Action, which includes the winners of last year's competition: Jerome Foster II, a climate advisor and environmental justice activist in the White House; Sônia Guajajara, the leader of Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil; Sophia Kianni, the founder of Climate Cardinals and US representative on the UN Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change; and many more.
