NLC and TUC will meet in extraordinary NEC session. An unusual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting has been called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to discuss urgent labor concerns, such as the recent attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero.

Tommy Etim, the National Vice-President of TUC, revealed this in an interview on Tuesday.

According to Etim, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed on October 2, 2023, by the Federal Government and Organized Labor, in response to the elimination of the Premium Motor Spirit, or gasoline, subsidy.

"Any minute now, an extraordinary meeting of the NEC will take place. The planned strike, the injustice done to Comrade Ajaero, and the Memorandum of Understanding inked with the federal government are the modalities. "After the meeting, more information will be made public," Etim stated.

In the event that their demands are not fulfilled, the NLC and TUC have threatened to take widespread strike action. They have demanded that Ajaero be freed immediately, that the Imo State Commissioner of Police be redeployed, that the government aide responsible for the attack be apprehended and prosecuted, and that the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed with the federal government be thoroughly examined.

Prior to the Imo statewide demonstration, Ajaero was taken into custody by the police. The police, however, insisted that Ajaero was just placed in protective custody to avert a mob violence and denied ever having arrested him.

The labor leader was accused of interfering in the political affairs of the state by Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State.
