Nigeria's rice output can be increased by green agriculture in West Africa.
In order to invest in agriculture, CGCOC Group Co. Ltd. founded Green Agriculture West Africa Ltd. (GAWAL) in Nigeria in 2006. From the beginning, GAWAL has positioned itself to serve as a bridge and a partner for agricultural cooperation between China and Africa.

It has gained recognition in Nigeria over the years as a leading large-scale seed company as well as an all-encompassing agricultural enterprise that engages in a variety of agricultural-related activities, including agro-processing, agricultural technical training, agro-product trading, and agricultural consultancy.

Starting with the seed industry, the Nigerian National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) granted GAWAL a seed license in 2010. Based on the local planting pattern, GAWAL developed a diversified seed business in 2011 by beginning to produce and supply rice seeds.

Since then, the company has established seven seed production cooperatives with over 5,000 small-holder farmers in Nigeria in addition to operating a 2025-ha mechanized demonstration farm in Kebbi State. By teaching and empowering local farmers with rice and maize seed production techniques, the company has developed these farmers as its out-growers, assisting them in escaping poverty and boosting their income.

The enterprise can currently produce approximately 10,000 MT of seeds annually. From 2011 to the present, GAWAL has provided more than 20,000 MT of high-quality seeds, including foundation rice, certified maize, and rice seeds, to Nigerian farmers in more than 30 states through government initiatives like the state governments' direct seed procurement projects, the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme, and the Anchor Borrowers' Programme (ABP), which is sponsored by NIRSAL.

Following several years of seed research and development, the company was able to successfully register GAWAL R1, a high-yield rice variety, in Nigeria in 2017. With an average yield of 30%, this rice variety outperforms the most popular local variety. Owing to their superior quality and substantial production, Nigerian farmers and governments have extensively acknowledged our seeds.

Regarding the establishment and management of Agriculture Industrial Park, the business in

2013 saw the CGCOC Agriculture High-tech Abuja Industrial Park begin to take shape through independent investment. Research and development of seeds and seedlings, crop cultivation demonstration, horticultural protected agriculture, agro-input, and sales services for agricultural equipment are some of its primary responsibilities.

The processing of seeds, the distribution and processing of agricultural products, the microgrid power supply system, technical training for agriculture, and consulting and services pertaining to agriculture are some others.

The China-Aid Nigerian Agriculture Technology Demonstration Center is located in the park as well. After completion in December 2022, the Center has been turned over to GAWAL for management and operation in order to guarantee its success. The Center's key features are the Training Center for Agricultural Technology, the Research and Service Center for Agricultural Technology, the Exhibition Center for Agro-Input and Machinery, the Exhibition Center for Small-Scale Agro-Processing Technology, the Power Center, and the Water-saving Photovoltaic Pump Irrigation System.

The West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme, or WAAPP, collaborated on the Agricultural Technical Training. In Nigeria, the company successfully carried out the projects of building biogas digesters in 12 states and raising fish cages in two states between 2014 and 2015. During this time, over 300 technicians and farmers received training both indoors and on the job.

throughout 400 governmental officials from all throughout Nigeria have been trained by the company through agricultural technical training programs supported by the Chinese government, which have been implemented since 2016 in an effort to improve agricultural interchange and cooperation between China and Nigeria.

The company's agricultural specialists imparted expertise on contemporary agricultural technology in fields such seed production, rice and vegetable cultivation, seed breeding, soil and fertilizer sciences, agricultural machinery, and pest control, in addition to teaching and sharing.
