Major General Kure, 84, ex-GOC 82 Division
Former General Officer Commanding 83 Division, Enugu, Major General Yohanna Kure, has passed away at the age of 84. 


Retired from the Nigerian Army, General Yohanna Yerima Kure served as a member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council between 1985 and 1987 and was part of the Supreme Military Council of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985 during Buhari’s military government. Known as Gen Y Y Kure, he played a significant role in quelling the uprising of the fanatical Matatsine group in Kano in 1980 and Yola in 1982. 


Born on April 22, 1939, into the Royal family of Mallam Manchaik Kure and Mallama Tawok Kure in Kurmin Musa, Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, he enlisted in the Nigerian Army in 1963, rising through the ranks with an impressive career profile. 


After his military service, he pursued education at ECWA Theological College in Jos, obtaining a degree and Masters in Theology, and engaged in pastoral work.


General Y.Y. Kure, known for his humility and philanthropy, is survived by his wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, and relatives. 


A Wake keep and Service of Songs are scheduled for November 29, 2023, at ECWA Church Lemu Road, Tudun Wada Kaduna, with the burial set for December 1, 2023, in his hometown, Kurmin Musa, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
