Lagos disputes that public funds were used to finance Sanwo-Olu's court battle. The Lagos State Government has denied the allegations made by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, regarding the funding of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's legal dispute after the March 18 election. Rhodes-Vivour claimed in a tweet that the state government paid N50,000,000 to four lawyers for Governor Sanwo-Olu's defense.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, refuted these allegations in a statement, stating that while there was a payment request, no such payment was made.

Omotoso dismissed Rhodes-Vivour's claims as lacking proof and described them as an attempt to deceive the public. He emphasized that the document presented by Rhodes-Vivour did not bear the logo of the Lagos State Government or the endorsement of any officials.

Omotoso acknowledged the importance of scrutinizing the finances of the Lagos State Government but emphasized that any inquiry should be based on verified facts.

He clarified that the mentioned transaction did not occur, and although there was a payment request, Governor Sanwo-Olu did not approve it after the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice flagged irregularities.

The commissioner affirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu's commitment to upholding his oath of office and stated that he would never misappropriate public funds.
