Shortly after holding a meeting with AIG Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, Nigeria's organized labor movement called off the countrywide walkout against the brutalization of Comrade Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in the Imo state capital of Owerri on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
According to Blueprint, the decision to halt the action was made during a combined emergency visual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting between the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the NLC.
In response to a request from Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the NEC decided to halt the strike at their meeting.
Earlier, organized labor met with the NSA, who pleaded with the workers to put an end to the strike so that the problems could be resolved peacefully.
Workers agreed to give Malam Ribadu the benefit of the doubt as he promised to end the standoff, according to a source at the joint NEC meeting of organized labor that was shared with Blueprint.
