Israel's strike on the French Institute in Gaza is demanded by France.
France said on Friday that it was requesting an explanation after receiving information from Israel indicating that its soldiers had attacked the French Institute in Gaza.

The foreign ministry released a statement saying, "We were informed by the Israeli authorities that the French Institute in Gaza had been targeted by an Israeli strike."

The statement read, "We have requested that the Israeli authorities promptly notify us of the concrete factors that drove this decision."

According to the ministry, neither employees nor French nationals were present during the strike.

Global cultural outreach initiatives are carried out by the government-funded French Institute.

The deadly raids carried out by Hamas on October 7, which Israeli officials claim resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people, set off hostilities between Israel and the militant Palestinian group Hamas.

Over 9,200 Palestinians, largely women and children, have reportedly perished in Israeli bombardments, according to the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza.
