During a press conference, Comptroller Kehinde Ilesanmi, the Customs Area Controller for Kwara Command, revealed this.
He said that the amount generated during the review period—N307,517,623.49)—surpassed that earned during the same time in 2022.
According to Ilesanmi, the command noted 15 seizures during that time.
"These comprised 1,875 liters of petroleum, each held in 25 liter jerry cans, and 352 bags of foreign parboiled rice, weighing 50 kg each.”
According to the Comptroller, N11,149,636.00 was the duty paid value (DPV) of the seizure, and three suspects were taken into custody during the period under consideration.
Additionally, he paraded and gave two suspects detained by Customs in connection with two stolen cars to officers from the Lagos Police Command at the forum.
The suspected stolen vehicles, which were apprehended by command personnel and officers, have been turned over. This action is a step toward strengthening the collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the NCS.
"The Customs and Police have the customary duties of living together and working together. When we witness any transgression that appears to have an impact on one another, we make an arrest and turn the offender over to the proper authority.
It should be noted that the land border of Kwara Command remains inaccessible to automobiles and other economic activity.
"It was found throughout the investigation that the mentioned vehicle's registration number belonged to a Toyota Hiace bus. Because of this, our officers became more curious, and the car was taken into custody, Ilesanmi clarified.
He advised traffickers to avoid Kwara, noting that NCS police have persisted in their dominance of aggressive patrols that restrict smugglers' freedom of movement.
Ilesanmi commended Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, and his management group for providing the Kwara Command with an extra four patrol cars to help them achieve outstanding outcomes.
