Imo guber poll: Uche Nwosu explains the lack of enthusiasm among voters
Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has blamed the high expense of transportation for the low voter participation in the Imo state gubernatorial election.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, he clarified that many of the state's registered voters who were located in Lagos, Portharcourt, and other parts of the nation were unable to go to their respective places on election day in order to cast their ballots.

In actuality, a sizable portion of our voters do not reside in the state. You understand the meaning of giving them gas so they can drive home to cast their ballots. Given the difficult times, I think the majority of them thought that it wasn't a priority at the time. At least 40–50% of our voters are from outside the state, he claimed.

He criticized the beliefs held by some that the state's poor voting turnout was caused by the intimidating actions of the Ebubeagu security forces, saying that the people promoting such ideas were distorting the facts.

To solve the issues related to voter apathy in the polity, he added, more work has to be done on voter education and fostering confidence in the electoral system.

Nwosu, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for the state's governorship on the Action Alliance (AA) platform in the 2019 election, stated that considering Governor Hope Uzodinma's strong campaigns and accomplishments in the state, the overwhelming win should not come as a surprise.

He disagreed with those who hold Governor Uzodinma responsible for the recent wave of insecurity in the state, calling on opposition members to put aside their differences and work toward the state's socioeconomic development.

"Insecurity is not unique to Imo state," he declared. It's a national problem. There is instability throughout the nation, including in the states of Sokoto, Zamfara, Benue, and Niger. Are you implying that the issue was brought about by the Sokoto State Governor?

"No governor would knowingly wish for issues to arise in their state. Our only goal is peace, and it is our duty to work with the governor to make that happen.

He ruled out running for any state office of appointment and urged Governor Uzodinma to continue his efforts at development and reconciliation with important state stakeholders.
