The agency's flag would also be flown at half mast.
The agency's spokesperson, DCI Dotun Aridegbe, revealed that Immigration Chief, Caroline Wuraola-Adepoju, is extremely saddened by the loss.
He said, "I am here to discuss a tragic occurrence that involved the hardworking staff of the Nigeria Immigration Service yesterday, November 12, 2023.
Yesterday, an eighteen-seater official bus carrying a party of eleven of our people was on its way back to Abuja following an important assignment in Kano. Sadly, not far from Kano, they were involved in a horrific accident. Four of our staff members died as a result.
"For all of us in the Nigeria Immigration Service, this has been an extremely upsetting and sad time. At the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, seven of our coworkers who suffered injuries of varying degrees are undergoing medical attention. We send them our best wishes and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.
In light of this sad event, the Nigeria Immigration Service had to make sure the surviving family members were notified and assisted before speaking with the media.
"With the greatest care and respect, funeral plans are being made for our deceased colleagues.Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, is personally offering her sympathies and support to the families of the deceased, as she is very saddened by this loss. In this painful time, the Service stands firmly with those left behind by their breadwinners.
The Acting CG has directed an immediate investigation to determine the accident's remote cause. We're determined to find out what caused this terrible catastrophe, and we'll do all in our power to stop it from happening again.
"The entire Nigeria Immigration Service family is reflecting deeply at this time. For the next seven days, all Commands and Formation Heads are instructed by the Acting CGI to fly our flag at half-mast. We will remember and pay tribute to our departed coworkers by holding a three-day mourning period.
"We value your comprehension and assistance during this trying time. We kindly request your consideration for the impacted families' right to privacy while they deal with this tremendous loss.
