IGP limits traffic in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo in advance of the governorship elections
During the Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo state governorship elections on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has prohibited vehicular mobility in the three states.

ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, announced the development on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja.

"On election day in the affected states, the IGP has ordered the restriction of all vehicular movement on highways, canals, and other kinds of transit from 12:01 am to 6 pm,” Adejobi stated.

According to Adejobi, the restriction is meant to maintain public order and protect voters' safety when they cast their ballots.

"The order aims to ensure public order management and the safety of the electorate as part of the effort to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the conduct of the election."

He did point out, though, that certain critical services are excluded from the ban, including media representatives, firefighters, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, and members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
