In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Abuja, Matawalle provided the guidance.
He was responding to some claims made by Dauda about his time as the state's governor.
The accusations included, among other things, resource mismanagement, significant debt, and failure to pay examination and school fees for both domestic and international students.
"In my opinion, the man is not prepared to lead." He constantly assigns blame rather than focusing and ensuring that he provides the Zamfara people with the benefits of democracy.
He just fights, thinking about the past and wondering how many governors have led the state. We were four or five.
"Over the years, none of them has tried to disparage their predecessor in the past; yet, this one is placing blame instead of focusing on the security issue.
"The President ordered all of us, the security services, to go to the location and commiserate with the state's citizens and the parents when students from Gusau University were abducted.
"The state was not where he was. He had left. He didn't live in Nigeria. When we called, he didn't pick up. Before we could obtain his phone number and provide it to him, we had to go via a third party.
He begged the priest present to let us know when he returned from his absence and to come.
"Mr. President has ordered this team to travel to the state. No communication from this individual as of yet.
Instead of focusing, he is only assigning blame. I would tell him to keep in mind that he was elected to address the problems facing his state.
As Dauda's predecessor, I always hope and pray that he succeeds so that the state's problems with terrorism, banditry, and instability are history.
"That's because everyone is there, including my extended family, and that's my state no matter what."
Thus, I always ask God to set us free and keep us safe from situations like these in my prayers.
"As stakeholders, we need to unite, work as a team, and combat these crimes.
"I think they're just trying to take my mind off of the duties that have been assigned to me as Minister of Defense. They want me to avoid focusing on my responsibilities. I refuse to let them.
"I've tried my hardest, and God knows I can yet do more. And we are doing a lot of effort in Nigeria to ensure that no illicit activity occurs.
"I think he ought to take a seat, exercise critical thinking, and realize that the people giving him bad advice are actually his adversaries.
People would start to perceive the governor as a chronic complainer with each and every complaint.
"He is a man, not a woman. Allow him to focus. Let him to rise. Let him hold fast to his accountability. He shouldn't always cry like a lady.
The minister declared that he would follow the advice of the Northern Elders Forum and the Police and would not reply to the governor in the future.
"Allow him to say anything he wants to say in the future. I've expressed my own. Our elders have discussed a lot of things about him, but I won't mention them all here. I will make sure to follow their advice because I respect them.
"I believe that all that is required of us is to work together to find a solution to the problem of insecurity in Nigeria, especially in our geopolitical region.
"Why are we fighting ourselves when there are so many obstacles in our knowledge?
"I'll focus on making sure that these criminals don't harm the people in the North West." As the leaders of that zone, this is what we are expected to do.
"Rather than fighting amongst ourselves, we ought to unite and take on these criminals," he continued.
