She highlighted the challenges associated with reporting such incidents and the difficulties in raising awareness about GBV.
Benjamins-Laniyi revealed that, within the last ten days, reported cases of GBV in the FCT increased from less than 2,000 to 2,344.
She shared details about using the National Dashboard of GBV to bring awareness to the underreporting and crisis in communities, particularly in the palaces of Royal Fathers.
Benjamins-Laniyi emphasized her commitment to intervening in and supporting vulnerable groups, including FCT women, adolescent girls, children, and persons with disabilities.
Additionally, she announced the participation of dignitaries in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence event, including FCT minister Nyesom Wike and others, scheduled for Saturday, November 25, 2023.
The event aims to emphasize the importance of preventing violence against women and children, with a theme of "Invest To Prevent Violence Against Women and Children." Benjamins-Laniyi called for media support to address the various forms of violence, including advocating for people living with disabilities.
