FG hopes to cut the jobless rate by 80%.
According to Barr Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, the administration of President Bola Tinubu was preparing to introduce a roadmap that would remove more than 80% of young people without jobs off the streets.

In order to minimize unemployment in the nation, the minister issued a challenge to senior managers at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

According to the minister, the Nigerian government has promised to put a renewed focus on the NDE in order to address the urgent problem of unemployment, especially among young people.

At the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, which has as its subject "Connecting Businesses, Creating Value," Onyejeocha provided the guarantee to NDE recipients and trainees.

Onyejeocha emphasized the critical role that NDE plays in combating unemployment through the organization's initiatives to give young Nigerians access to entrepreneurship possibilities and skill-building programs.

In a statement released on Thursday, Onyejeocha was cited by Special Adviser on Media to Minister Emameh Gabriel as pleading with NDE management to prioritize eliminating unemployment head-on, noting that "the president, my principal is really concerned about unemployment in the country."

She claims that the president has given explicit instructions on how to properly address the issue of the rising unemployment rate since he is quite concerned about it.

She promised that eventually the nation's fate would turn around for the better, despite the fact that it is currently experiencing inevitable hardship.

"I am not exaggerating," she declared. I have witnessed the president's heart. I've seen the team he put together, and I've seen their dedication and hearts. I've also observed his appointees' attitudes. I hope Nigerians will give us some time, and things will change significantly.

"There is no reason for us to fail. To alter the story, we have to put in a lot of work. We are developing tactics and programs aimed at removing eighty percent of the unemployed from the streets.

Onyejeocha pledged that all NDE trainees in the future will be provided with a fair starter pack that would enable them to live off the streets entirely.

"I am not going to engage in an empowerment program where you give the beneficiaries N50,000 or N20,000 after training," the woman declared. Since all you're instructing kids to do is eat their lunch and go to bed when you do that.

"You train people with the intention of permanently changing their lives," You coach individuals because you have a strong desire to see them off the streets and out of poverty. People are not trained for political purposes.

"We have to act morally; by doing so, you are fostering commercial relationships and providing value.

"God knows why I'm here, I told myself when I found myself in a position where I had to supervise the National Directorate of Employment. I am aware that your intention is for me to focus on my areas of passion, which include hiring people and empowering them—things I have been doing through my foundation for the past few decades.

The government's appeal for greater measures to fight poverty and unemployment was repeated by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, President of the LCCI and Council Chairman, voiced worry over the high percentage of poverty in the nation, stating that more than 63% of Nigerians live below the poverty line.

He asked the NDE to keep up its effective efforts in entrepreneurship education and skill development to empower young Nigerians and support economic expansion.
