Farmers argue that agro-ecology farming is the answer to their products' rejection on the global market.
Rivers State farmers have called for the widespread adoption of Agro-ecology farming, emphasizing its potential to reduce rejections of Nigerian agricultural products in international markets.

The farmers, facing challenges like poor yields despite using conventional fertilizers, urged the federal government to establish policies promoting the application and production of organic fertilizers.

During a one-day training on organic fertilizer production in K-Dere Community, Gokana Council, the farmers expressed gratitude for the eye-opening session.

They highlighted the impact of long-term oil exploration in Ogoniland on the environment, contributing to declining farm yields.

The training, sponsored by the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), focused on using organic fertilizers to address challenges and improve crop yields sustainably.

Joyce Brown, Director of Programmes at HOMEF, emphasized the negative implications of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides on human health, the environment, and Nigeria's international market reputation.

The training aimed to empower farmers to produce high-quality food while mitigating the rejection of Nigerian products due to excessive pesticide use.
