Ex-KASCO MD and two others are remanded by the court for suspected N4 billion fraud.
Alhaji Bala Muhammad Inuwa, the former managing director of the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), and two other people have been placed under detention in prison due to allegations of N4 billion in fraud by a Kano High Court presided over by Justice Hafsat Yahaya Sani.

The other two are Bala Muhammad Inuwa, the son of the former managing director, and an incorporated trustee of the Association of Compassionate Friends.

This came after the defendants were arraigned before the court on Thursday by the Kano State government.

Recall that the Office of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice brought accusations against them, and the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) looked into the reported fraud.

The defendants allegedly transferred more than N4 billion from the state's agricultural supply company account into their own personal accounts, according to PCACC's investigation.

Prof. Nasir Aliyu, the defendant's attorney, countered that the defendants cannot be arraigned because some materials, such as the defendant's statements and witness list, are unavailable.

According to Alyu, in accordance with the Kano State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2019, the defendant's constitutional right to a fair trial will be impeded in the absence of the facilities.

The court ordered that the charges be read to the defendants, ruling that there was insufficient justification to reject their plea.

Following the reading of the ten counts, which included mishandling of grant funds, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and making a false statement to conceal the transaction.

The accused denied the charges that were presented to them in their pleadings.

Once more, the defense team entered an oral plea, pleading with the judge to let the defendants keep the bond that had already been set by a higher court.

Zaharadeen Kofar-Mata, the complainant's attorney, countered that even though they are not contesting the bail, it should be granted through a legal application made to the court rather than an oral pleading.

Judge Hafsat's decision mandated that the defense attorney file an application for bail, which might be heard on Friday, November 3, if it is prepared.

She gave the defendants' remand order. The substantive suit hearing was postponed until December 6 by the court.
