Dembos swears to advance BON after taking the oath of office.
The newly appointed Chairman of the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) is Mr. Salihu Dembos, Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

At the investiture event hosted by BON on Thursday in Abuja, Dembos and his Vice, Chief Tony Akiotu of DAAR Communications, took the oath of office.

In his remarks, the newly appointed BON chairman pledged to build on the tremendous accomplishments started by Mr. John Ugbe, the outgoing chairman.

"I am aware that he left a huge gap that will be challenging to fill, but with the members' help and support, we will carry out our tasks with a full sense of responsibility in order to advance BON.

Thus, the new BON leadership will keep drawing on the experiences of the organization's previous chairs and executive secretaries.

"We'll exert every effort to not only advance in BON, but to achieve greatness," stated Dembos.

Ugbe had already stated that the adventure had begun with his election in Kano in October 2021 and his following investiture with his vice, Dr. Mansur Liman.

He conveyed gratitude to individuals who helped him accomplish his goals inside the organization, which included the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards' (NAB) inaugural edition and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters' resuscitation.

The development of member station employees' skills and the expansion of international contacts through partnerships with the hosts of the annual NAB exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, are two more.

In order to improve a thriving business, Ugbe asked for increased cooperation from regulatory bodies including the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

He expressed dissatisfaction with the limited cash flow and member stations' approximately N100 million debt to BON, as evidenced by the 2022 audited statements.

Dr. Muhammad Bulama, the Director-General of FRCN, expressed faith in Dembos and Akiotu's ability to fulfill BON's mandate.

The FRCN, who are under my direction, are crucial and significant stakeholders, and they will not take BON lightly.

The business will be forced to work hard since it provides a forum for collaboration between public and private broadcasters.

Bulama declared, "So, we will provide whatever support that is needed to move BON forward."

The event drew pertinent media industry participants from throughout the nation, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
