Customs offers its employees a two-day course on geospatial technologies.

Reaffirms commitment to combating those who undermine the economy

In an effort to improve its operations, the Nigeria Customs Service is utilizing technology. To this end, Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has organized a two-day course for officers and men in the Service on geospatial techniques.

As per the CGC, who was ably represented by Sa'idu Galadima, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the program will provide officers with a practical understanding of border security, thereby boosting Nigeria's economy.

He discussed the CGC's commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the Service and using technology to reduce, among other crimes, smuggling and promote trade.

He was characterized as "a person who extremely supports technology" by the DCG.

Kikelomo Adeola, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of ICT/Modernization, stated that providing training on geospatial technology to Customs agents will help the agency combat smuggling to the fullest extent possible.

"The days of officers carrying guns to scout smugglers in the bushes are long gone, which is why we felt it was essential to launch this geospatial program to give our staff the necessary experience in checking smuggling activities while in their offices," the spokesperson stated.

If the training is successful, she claims, it will allow the Service to identify all unauthorized and unlawful routes taken by smugglers over border areas and to intervene to stop their evil plans.

"Customs' unwavering efforts to improve trade in Nigeria will be strengthened greatly by this training," the speaker stated. "Geospatial not only provides our offices with insight to mitigate smuggling through technological means, but it also provides accurate and timely intelligence to ensure that anti-smuggling activities are perfectly achieved."
