Crisis in the Rivers Assembly: the new speaker calls for the deputy to be held in contempt
A request has been made to a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to imprison the former Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, for allegedly refusing to comply with a court order.

The new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, has filed a notice of consequence of disobedience of the court order against the former speaker and his deputy.

The applicants, Rivers State House of Assembly and Ehie, claim that the respondents violated a court order issued on November 7, 2023, which instructed parties not to take any action related to the subject matter of the suit before the court.

The new Speaker accuses the former speaker of invading the Rivers State House of Assembly and conducting a sitting in defiance of the court order.

The case is scheduled for November 27, 2023.
