CJN requests a change to terminate the majority of cases at A'Court.Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola, has urged the National Assembly to amend laws to allow for the termination of most appeals at intermediary courts, aiming to reduce the burden on the Supreme Court.

He revealed that from September last year to July this year, the Supreme Court received 1,271 cases, consisting of motions and appeals, with 388 political appeals, 215 criminal appeals, and 464 civil appeals.

Despite challenges, including a reduced number of justices, the Supreme Court delivered 251 judgments during this period.

CJN Ariwoola emphasized the judiciary's commitment to avoiding bias, corruption, or partiality in judgments to maintain the integrity of the judicial system.

During a special session marking the start of the 2023/2024 legal year and the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), he confirmed the rank for 58 legal practitioners, reminding them of the responsibility to uphold justice, equity, and fairness.
