In the fourth round of their ten-round main event at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada, the hard-hitting Nigerian World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight contender defeated Australia's Goodall. The Nigerian, who had fallen short against Goodall via decision at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, received a sweet retribution in the fourth-round knockout.
In a statement released on Monday in Asaba by Sir Festus Ahon, his Chief Press Secretary, the Governor praised the hard-hitting, brilliant fighter for his well-earned victory over a strong opponent.
Governor Oborevwori also praised Michael Efe Ejeba, a past winner of BBNaija and well-known Nigerian musician, for his outstanding performance in introducing Ajagba to the boxing ring on that fatal day.
He praised the mindset of the two Deltan brothers, Efe Ajagba from Ughelli Kingdom and Efe Ejeba from Okpe Kingdom, for helping one another win and for their great performances that consistently embodied the unwavering spirit of the Delta and Nigerian people.
"I congratulate our illustrious son and boxing champion, Efe Ajagba, on the successful defence of his WBC silver heavyweight title," Oborevwori remarked on behalf of the government and people of Delta State.
"Ajagba has effectively defended his WBC title for the first time with this victory, further solidifying his reputation in the heavyweight class."
Oborevwori praised Ajagba for his bravery and self-control both inside and outside the ring, and he hoped that Sunday's victory will serve as a springboard for him to realize his dream of becoming the unchallenged World Heavyweight Boxing champion.
"I think that many up-and-coming boxing professionals would be inspired to keep believing in themselves for victory by Ajagba's achievements on the global stage," he stated.
He wished for a prosperous future and successful boxing and music careers for Ajagba and Efe, respectively.
The governor stated, "Let me express my joy at seeing two outstanding sons of Delta State and Urhobo working together to bring pride to Nigerians in far-off America."
"As an administration, we will persist in utilizing the potential of our young people to promote equitable growth within our state and nation."
