Bayelsa professionals knock Sylva over comments on TV programme
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, has come under fire from the Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) for neglecting to mention that the administration of Senator Douye Diri is currently building the Nembe-Brass road.

During her appearance on Politics Today on Channel TV on Tuesday, Sylva mentioned the challenges of building important projects in the state, but she left out the efforts made by the Diri administration, particularly the multibillion-naira Nembe/Brass road.

The Bayelsa professionals called Sylva's unwillingness to acknowledge and give Diri the recognition he deserves, "the height of mischief," in a statement provided to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday through its spokesperson, Mr. Deinmobofa Tantua.

"Sylva stated he doesn't have a road to his property, alluding to the challenging topography of Bayelsa state that hinders rapid development in terms of building essential infrastructure. It took him one hour and thirty minutes by boat to visit his neighborhood every time.

At that juncture, given the ambitious development of the Nembe-Brass road being carried out by the Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri, one would have expected him to announce to the world that he would be driving to his village shortly. But he did not engage in overt harm. This is regrettable in our opinion for a man running for national office.

Maybe he didn't because he felt ashamed. He was accused of saying that the route was not economically feasible, which is why he was unable to start construction on it during his five years as governor.

One would have expected Sylva to be more serious given his sense of patriotism and his role as a statesman. We collectively choose to support Diri because of this mentality since, in all cases, she is superior.

According to the statement, the goal of building the Nembe-Brass road is to boost the state's economy and provide access to the Atlantic Ocean so that it can utilize its wealth of natural resources.

"In the same interview, Sylva alleged that his successor sold the turbines when he left as governor," the statement continued.

"Based on the information at hand, that is untrue. Sylva only erected one of the three turbines, and even when it was put into service, it was non-operational. The three turbines are currently being restored by the Diri administration through a public-private collaboration.

"The company in charge will construct a smart prepaid meter manufacturing factory in Bayelsa and increase the capacity of the turbines from 71 MW to 120 MW when completed."

On November 11, the NBP once more urged the people of the state to support Diri of the PDP "because he represents the light to continue to illuminate Bayelsa's path to greatness," according to the statement.
