975 cartridges are intercepted by customs in Ogun

975 cartridges are intercepted by customs in OgunAlong the palace/Ayetoro road in the Imeko Afon Local Government of the state, 975 ammunitions hidden in five sacks of rice were discovered, according to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command.

In Idiroko, Ogun, on Wednesday, Mr. Ahmadu Shuaibu, the acting area controller, informed reporters.

He claims that the intelligence report the command obtained led them to dispatch officials to face individuals responsible for smuggling the munitions into the nation, and the intelligence report served as the basis for the seizure that occurred on November 27.

He claimed that for around a week before the capture, the NCS had been aggressively tracking the operations of smugglers engaged in the trafficking of live ammunition.

The controller went on to say that an intelligence report revealed the ammunition—975 rounds of red star cartridges, to be exact—was stashed away in a bush path and wrapped in five bags of rice.

He claims that the workers arrived on the scene and removed the five bags of rice without running into any trouble.

The head of customs claimed that the rice bags' peculiar threading and sewing drew their attention and raised suspicions.

He said that after the suitcases were examined more closely at the border station, it was discovered that 975 rounds of red star live cartridges were hidden inside of them.

He clarified that the NCS was stepping up its efforts to find the people responsible for this crime and make sure they were held accountable.

He continued, "We acknowledge the potentially fatal threat posed by the trafficking of weapons and ammunition, and we will not give up on our attempts to eradicate smuggling operations completely.

Shuaibu pointed out that there are serious repercussions from unchecked arms and ammunition smuggling, including the strengthening of criminal organizations, the escalation of crises, and the jeopardization of national security.

He declared that in order to create a secure and stable country, we would not back down from our struggle against the smuggling of illegal weapons and ammunition.
