40-year-old Guardian: Akinwumi Adesina advocates for ending poverty rather than just mitigating it
The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has emphasized the urgency for African nations to address poverty and manage natural resources effectively to earn global respect.

Speaking at the 40th-anniversary event of the Guardian newspaper in Lagos, Adesina called poverty abnormal and rejected the notion of "poverty alleviation," advocating for poverty eradication and wealth creation.

He challenged the idea of a "natural resource curse," attributing issues to leadership and governance.

Adesina stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and sound resource management, citing successful examples from resource-rich nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Norway.

He urged African governments to avoid loans backed by natural resources, emphasizing transparency and accountability in resource management.

Adesina also addressed food security, noting Africa's potential role in feeding the world but emphasizing the need for responsible resource management and self-sufficiency to gain global respect.
